Landscape of Inner Light

Number 50 in my series of 111 drawings on healing trauma in the body. This one shows a portal or opening into an inner womb-like landscape. This piece soothed some external disappointment and difficulty that I was experiencing at the time. It served as an internal balancing of darkness with light. The orange sun-like form symbolizes a placenta for the new developing land. I didn’t realize it at the time, but the same yellow form also represents my liver. A number of drawings depict a gradual healing of my liver region, which only became obvious in retrospect, when one drawing in particular culminated in a physical healing. The juxtaposition of healing and art inspires me. I hope to explore this potential for physical healing through artwork more. (As I age, the list of body parts that I want to heal keeps expanding!) Sometimes when I draw, I simultaneously feel as if I am drawing inside my body. I wonder about developing the ability to color in physical change. However, subconscious intuitive processes have a life of their own. I humbly recognize that my ego is not in control. Surrender and acceptance is often the path forward. The mystery of life and the unconscious is vaster and deeper than I realize. Every insight that reveals itself, opens a doorway into even greater mystery. One can’t help but feel blessed in amazement and awe.
