Gathering Momentum

This is the second piece in a series of images that delve into The Art of the Unknown. My art arises unplanned from subconscious scribbling. After two plus years of drawing into trauma, a transformation has occurred. I am no longer drawing wounds. I feel some relief that that chapter has come to some kind of inner completion, (while realizing that these kinds of things are never really complete). But now with some trepidation, I find my artwork and psyche grappling with an even bigger theme. In March of 2020, I had a powerful dream where rising black water consumed everything. However, I awoke from that dream in a miraculous state of vast peace, instead of terror. My artwork and consciousness explore the rising dark unknown now, the territory of wholeness. I grapple with fear, but also find compelling comfort in the alive, pulsating, swirling, intelligent space. The luminous darkness, the unconscious ground from which all else arises, has become my inward reality now. Perhaps you feel (or have felt) this as well? The ground reveals itself when layers covering it have peeled back. It is impossible to describe this kind of experience; like trying to articulate colors to someone born blind. The best time to access this space is in between waking and falling asleep. I recommend lingering in the imagery and sensation that arise in the dark, illuminating time of drifting off.

This particular drawing issues forth from the stillness of fluid motion. Sentient life peers into or out of a humble mystery. The image is like a 3-D enso calligraphy circle, a circular dance of darkness and light. Subtle movement of circular portals, in perpetual unified motion. Some vast unfathomable wholeness holds all. To feel held is a gift.
