The Vitality of Anger!

Number 63 in my Drawing into Trauma series.

Most of my art arises from a state of emotional intensity of one kind or another. We might as well make good use of our distressed energy! The art making process transmutes turbulent emotions into something healing. A drawing might begin with anger, but very few end up looking and feeling that way.

This piece is an exception. It feels angry but in a vital and fun way. This lightness of anger mobilizes energy, empowering one to fight the good fight, whether for oppressed parts of self or other worthy causes.

The dark side of anger, while important to feel, may end up up harming self and others, if one lacks constructive ways to channel it. Also, a bit of humor and the ability to laugh at oneself can effortlessly shift a dark brooding anger into one that is light.

We especially need to feel and utilize our anger now. As one heals, and frozen dormant parts of the self and collective begin to revive, self-protective anger is often the first emotion to arise. As biological creatures, this protective anger is the sign of our nervous systems reactivating and healing. When channeled with kindness and care, a pure vitality of anger offers a portal, a gateway, to something bright and true.
