Design and Credits for this Website

I designed this website myself using the Squarespace platform and the Rally template. I had zero experience with website design when I first began, and the first days were tough – really tough. Initially, the free videos that people posted on YouTube, with step by step demonstrations, helped me more than any of the Squarespace tutorials. I was grateful for the ordinary people who took the time to give freely of their expertise.

Since my initial learning curve, I have been satisfied with Squarespace. However, there are some basic things that the Squarespace platform does not support. Sometimes I find a solution that circumvents the issue, and sometimes not. Squarespace would be truly amazing if they fixed some of their basic limitations.

My original intention had been to only use artwork and photos taken by either my partner Denny or myself, and occasionally feature the work of close family and friends. But then I discovered a great stock photo that evoked the overall feeling of kind ground that I wanted this site to have, and so I purchased that image. Then a few months later Squarespace paired up with Unsplash, and began offering quality photos for free. And so I relinquished my purist intentions and began using more stock photos when I found ones that fit. However, the majority of images on this website have still been taken by either Denny or myself. Denny doesn't care about receiving credit, and frankly we often don't remember who took which photo. Some of the photos feature Denny's carvings and inlay. Others feature beaded musical instruments that I've made. All other credits will be compiled below.

Credit for Photos and Artwork

The mountain and valley image on the home page I bought from Getty's. This photo captured the expansive feeling and lush green ground that I wanted to represent Kind Ground. From my research, the picture was taken from the Rotspitz (which means redpeak) summit, a mountain located in Liechtenstein, (which is a landlocked microstate in Eastern Europe, bordering Switzerland and Austria). The mountains in the image are in Bavaria, Germany.

The image of the sea lions used for The Kindness of Presence was taken by my brother-in-law David Behany in Westport, WA.

The image of the luminescent path through the trees used for Inspiring Kind Ground is by photographer Johannes Plenio from Unsplash,

The image used for About This Website page, is of a canyon called Fjaðrárgljúfur in Iceland, taken by Martin Sanchez from Unsplash.
